In Pickleball Magazine: Shaping the Voice of a Growing Sport
Pickleball has rapidly evolved from a niche pastime into one of the fastest-growing sports in America. As the game expanded, so did the need for media that could both celebrate its culture and educate newcomers. I was selected by the editor of In Pickleball magazine to help hone the publication’s editorial angle and pitch stories that would support its vision of engaging both seasoned fans and curious first-timers.
The Challenge
The magazine needed to balance enthusiasm with authority, providing content that entertained, informed, and welcomed new players to the sport. The editorial direction had to:
- Capture the energy of the pickleball community.
- Deliver content that was accessible to beginners while still offering value to passionate fans.
- Create opportunities to position the magazine as a trusted resource for potential customers curious about the game.
My Role
- Worked directly with the editor to refine the magazine’s editorial strategy.
- Pitched and wrote articles that aligned with the publication’s vision and audience needs.
- Created content tailored to fans and newcomers alike, from gear insights to cultural commentary.
The Outcome
My contributions helped In Pickleball strengthen its editorial identity, expand its reach, and connect with readers at all levels of familiarity with the sport. Articles such as Get a Grip, Ready to Serve, and Home Turf provided approachable, engaging content that invited more people into the world of pickleball—supporting both community growth and the magazine’s brand.
